What is the Story Behind the Digital Health Maven Growth Salon
Plus Think Unusual Expedition?

Event Date: February 23, 2015, Matter Headquarters, Chicago, Illinois

In September 2014, the noted innovation consultancy Enspektos, LLC launched a unique initiative called the Digital Health Maven Project.  The project’s goal is to accelerate the transformation of health by creating a global cadre of digital health mavens.  These are health executives, medical professionals and others who have the knowledge, confidence and skills they need to successfully initiate and support innovation in health using digital and analog tools and technologies.

To extend the impact of the project, Enspektos founded a series of intimate events called Digital Health Maven Growth Salons in late 2014.  These unique learning experiences are inspired by the centuries-old European tradition of salons, or gatherings, which were meant to increase knowledge and the exchange of ideas through conversation and debate.

Salons are also designed to provide education on important issues in digital health — from a very unique perspective — and enable attendees to connect with each other and have their most critical questions about innovation, transforming health, building great teams and more addressed by experts.

Another goal of these events is to help seed a growing community of people who self-identify as digital health mavens and commit to working together and supporting each other in various ways in order to speed health innovation.

Salons are organized around a process developed by Enspektos called the Digital Health Maven Growth System.  The system is designed to help you become more proficient, knowledgeable and successful in health by practicing the habits of digital health mavens.

In addition to producing the salons, Enspektos is partnering with innovative individuals and organizations who are aligned with the mission of the Digital Health Maven Project.  One of these people is Dr. Gautam Gulati, innovator and founder of The Unusual Group.

Prior to the salon, Gautam will lead the Think Unusual Expedition, a unique storytelling adventure designed to take you on a behind-the-scenes tour of select innovative Chicago businesses to hear directly from founders and leaders doing extraordinary things in their native environment.

The salon will take place at Matter, a unique community focused on working individually and collectively to fuel the future of healthcare.

Attend the Digital Health Maven Growth Salon plus Think Unusual Expedition and learn:

  • A unique technique you can use to quickly survey the digital health landscape, understand the scope and impact of various technology solutions and what the future may bring
  • Surprising lessons on how to drive digital health innovation within large organizations and the looming health technology crisis no one else is talking about (and what to do about it)
  • From founders doing extraordinary work within their native environment and how their unique approaches toward innovation could transform your product, service and organization
  • What innovators, investors, entrepreneurs and others think about what it takes to do great work, drive innovation and build solid strategies
  • Much, much more

The disassembled pieces soon galvanized into a community and a thriving health tech innovation economy.

"The salon wasn't the cheapest event I've attended.
But, in terms of potential outcome, it was the one with the highest value."

I attended Enspektos' first Digital Health Maven Growth Salon, which took place in New York City. I'm a digital health innovator and founder of SwiftAlarm!, a unique mobile application that provides older adults and their families with on-demand and real-time information about the location and condition of loved ones. I came to the event looking for input on how to market our existing product better and get new ideas about potential new solutions for it.

I left the event impressed by a number of things. But, I found the step by step approach I learned, based on techniques used by composers, for deconstructing and examining digital health solutions most valuable.

I was shown a very simple step I never thought of before -- already embedded in my product -- that might be of highest value to a potential distribution partner.

In fact, I realized, after attending the event that I would have to rewrite my business plan!
How often does this happen and you are actually happy about it?

Overall, it wasn't the quantity of information that impressed me, but the one idea I gained due to the systematic approach I learned during the event. I traveled from Germany to attend both the salon and the mHealth Summit. The salon made my entire trip to the United States worthwhile.

The salon wasn't the cheapest event I've attended.
But, in terms of potential outcome, it was the one with the highest value.
